The Grand Carre area of the Jardin des Tuileries was designed by the landscape architect and gardener Andre Le Notre back in the 1600s for the Palais des Tuileries, and was sometimes used as a private garden for those residing in the palace, yet this was destroyed by fire during the Paris Commune.

However, this area that holds the Grand Bassin you can see in the distance is now open to the public for relaxation or admiring the many statues and different flowerbeds that are maintained by a dedicated team of over 20 gardeners, and this is a view looking over the Carre de fer nord in a south easterly direction.
