When it comes to choosing a B&B in Paris you will find that the Federation des Professionnels Parisiens de la Chambre d’Hotes created a quality charter back in the early part of the 2000s, which is called the Authentic B&B.
However, the guidelines for B&B were taken further with a charter called Hotes Qualite Paris, which was put together with the Paris City Council, the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau and companies that check and verify bed & breakfast accommodation within the city.
To be officially registered as a B&B in Paris with the charters, you will find that certain guidelines have to be met with a room having to be a minimum of 10 metres squared and the minimum size of a single bed being 70cm x 190cm and a double bed being 140cm x 190cm.
Another minimum requirement for each bed and breakfast room is to have a bedside table and lamp along with a place for your clothes such as a wardrobe, with fresh clean bedding and clean sheets for each new guest, which must be changed at least every four days.
It is preferred that a room also has a desk and at least one chair, but is not a specific requirement, just an additional advantage and only personal belongings such as ornaments or books should be within a B&B room only if they can be of benefit or add to the decoration and comfort of the facilities offered by the host.
Hotes Qualite Paris and the Authentic B&B charters state that at least a bath towel and hand towel must be provided, although the bathrooms can be shared, either with other guests or the hosts, but this has to be stated within the information, otherwise it would state en suite, or maybe a combination of the two.
A shared bathroom under the charters, which must include a hand basin and a shower or bath, with the toilet either combined or separate, can only be used by a maximum of six people, and this includes the hosts themselves. Plus these must be cleaned daily, with fresh towels for new guests or changed every four days for those staying longer.
As the name states, B&B does have to include breakfast, and the minimum requirement for either the Authentic B&B or Hotel Qualite Paris charters is a traditional French breakfast in a family style including tea, coffee, milk, fresh bread, butter and jams, although many hosts also offer different pastries, cereals, fruit juice, hot chocolate, etc in a traditional continental style to get your day off to the right start.
Each host has to provide you with a key to access the apartment and room, so that you can come and go as you please during your stay, plus they must be available to welcome you and provide information on events or attractions that are located nearby to the accommodation.
So as you can tell, B&B can be a great alternative to a hotel, with a friendly welcoming atmosphere in a traditional Paris setting, providing a more home from home experience, which can also be a cheaper option than even a standard 1 star hotel.

Rather than being in a hotel, many people love the idea of intimacy or living like someone would in the place they are visiting, so B&B within a private Parisian residence is a preferred choice for many visitors to Paris.
