Michel Duroc Statue On Aile De Rohan-Rivoli At Musee Louvre

This first HD photo shows a statue of Geraud Christophe Michel Duroc, 1st Duc de Frioul who was known as just Michel Duroc, and this is positioned within a niche on the lower level of one of the facade of the famous Louvre Museum.

It was back in 1910 that it was decided to implement statues of Generals and Marshals of France onto the impressive facade, however, due to World War I, these were not put in place until the start of the 1920s.

There were numerous different artists commissioned to sculpt these statues, all depicted in their uniforms and this particular statue of Duroc was produced by Onesine Hulin who was born within the Nord area of France in 1835, and becoming a French sculptor he received the Legion of Honour in 1871.

Duroc was responsible for the safety of Napoleon while in France and on his campaigns, but during one battle Michel Duroc was mortally wounded, and with Napoleon at his side within a farmhouse where he lay dying, requested that he take care of his daughter. Napoleon purchased the farm and erected a monument in his memory and he was honourably laid to rest within Les Invalides.
