About Ateliers du Carrousel Art Workshops

The Ateliers du Carrousel was first initially created back in 1953 by Francois Mathey who was curator of the museums including the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, when he discovered the talents of Pierre Belves, who became one of the most famous illustrators.

The idea and vision was to create workshops for children under the age of thirteen to discover the world of art by providing workshops, which was the first experiment of its kind within a cultural institution.

It was such a great success, that by 1963 workshops for adolescents were introduced, and then in 1977 workshops for adults were also organised.  These also expanded into different areas of art like working with plaster and modelling.  An introduction to architecture was also implemented, which followed with courses specifically designed for future architects and interior designers.

By the late 1980s the Ateliers du Carrousel workshops had expanded even further and even internships for adolescents were also being organised and having become even more popular, the offices moved to the Rue de Rivoli in 2002, plus centres were opened up in two other places in Paris in 2003.
Today, there are numerous different themes and workshops available, whether it be for those that want an introduction to art, a holiday workshop, or a complete course lasting a year plus.

Still remaining true to the original ideas of introducing people to the world of art and stimulating individual creativity with a variety of different materials, objects and works, the Ateliers du Carrousel have a large team of professional artists in various fields, who teach over 1700 pupils each year from young children age four upwards through to adults.

All workshops do have to be booked well in advance as there are limited spaces available and even the courses for 2018 through to 2019 are fully booked, but we would like to point out that these are only available in French.

Obviously depending upon the type of course you would like yourself or a family member to participate in, the cost will vary greatly, yet all are conducted by professional artists in their specific fields and are held at three different locations throughout Paris.

The first location is at the Rue de Rivoli, which is where the contact and main office is also located, but the other two are at 63 Rue de Monceau in the 8th Arrondissement and at 266 Boulevard Raspail in the 14th Arrondissement.
