This first HD photo shows one of the statues located on the left hand side colonnade of the Grand Palais, which was constructed for the 1900 World Fair in Paris, and made of stone, this is one of a series of allegories depicting different types of art, that was put in place ready for the official inauguration of this historical monument.

Now there are actually two colonnades on the Grand Palais on either side of the main entrance, and to the left hand side it has statues representing different arts from the world, which is where you will find this statue of L'Art Asiatique, meaning Asian Art, whereas the other side depicts French art from different periods.

So this statue of Asian Art was restored to its former glory along with the others between the years 2000 and 2008, which means you can once again appreciate the detailing that went into producing this allegory, like you can see in this close up photo.

And this particular allegorical statue was by Georges Bareau, who was born in the April of 1866, entering the Ecole des Beaux Arts to become a French sculptor. and winning a gold medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, he was also awarded the Legion of Honour in 1906.

But Georges Bareau is most well known in his home region of the Pays de la Loire where you can discover different monuments and statues by him in places such as Nantes, plus he bequeathed his works to the town of Saint-Nazaire when he passed away in 1931.

Yet there is another sculpture of his that can be found at a tourist attraction in Paris called the Ranelagh Gardens, as well as this stone statue of L'Art Asiatique found on the main facade of Grand Palais.
