Le Paradis est un Enfer sculpture by Daniel Hourde
This first HD photo shows a man like a mythical style demon and a log for this statue group called Le Paradis est un Enfer, which was sculpted in bronze in 2014 by the contemporary artist Daniel Hourde, as part of La Passerelle Enchantee exhibition in Paris.

Le Paradis est un Enfer, translates in English to Paradise is Hell, and the entire temporary installation of the Pont des Arts is based around myth and magic, but with a dark side to many of the sculptures, especially with their names and meanings.

Also the entire temporary installation on the Pont des Arts by the artist Daniel Hourde is called La Passerelle Enchantee, which in English translates to The Enchanted Footbridge, although some people were finding this more enchanting than others, especially those that still expected to see the lovelocks.

Yet each of the contemporary art works were made utilising different metals such as bronze, as is the case with the Paradise is Hell sculpture you can see in this close up photo, and this was one idea that the artist had for the transitional stage from the old Pont des Arts within its padlocks to the new footbridge with clear panels and temporary art works.

In fact, before padlocks attached to the railings for people declaring their love to each other became a craze, the Pont des Arts was used for temporary art exhibitions, and the City of Paris, wanted this to happen again, whilst also preserving this historical bridge over the River Seine.

So due to the weight of the lovelocks and the damage this was causing to the pedestrian bridge, the padlocks were removed and temporary panels with street art on them were put in place, before the pelxiglass clear panels and The Enchanted Footbridge exhibition was organised.

And many people were instrumental in making this contemporary art exhibition happen, including Agnes Monplaisir who represents the artist Daniel Hourde, along with Jean-Marc Weill for the engineering, Woytek Mazurek for the technical design and Simon Drotter for its realisation and installation on the Pont des Arts.
Contemporary art sculpture Le Paradis est un Enfer
As we mentioned before, Le Paradis est un Enfer was produced in bronze back in 2014, and this is one of eight different statues for La Passerelle Enchantee exhibition in Paris, all produced by Daniel Hourde, running alongside a contemporary art exhibition at the Galerie Agnes Monplaisir.

However, here you can see some of the additional contemporary art sculptures, including one next to the Paradise is Hell statue, which is a tree, and the artist wanted to also refer back to when the original concept for the Pont des Arts was to be like a suspended garden where couples could promenade.
Info plaque for Le Paradis est un Enfer sculpture
Whereas this is a close up photo showing the tourist information plaque located on the temporary platform holding the sculptures, and as you can see here, it details the three different art works that have been positioned on this particular section with their names, dates and what materials were used.

And as you saw from the plaque above, Le Paradis est un Enfer is located in between two trees, called Arbres in French on one of the seven platforms that have been placed at intervals along the length of the bridge for The Enchanted Footbridge temporary installation.
