Bronze plaque NW side Pont Alexandre III
This first HD photo shows the outside edge of the shield style plaque on the balustrade of the Pont Alexandre III, which was made of bronze and put in place for when the bridge was first opened for the Universal exhibition in Paris, and there is another virtually the same on the opposite side of the parapet.
Gilded lions head Pont Alexandre III NW plaque
However, this photograph shows a close up of the gilding including the golden colouring of the animal head at the top of the ornate plaque, which looks like a lions head, and this is located close to the right bank in the 8th Arrondissement on the downstream side of the bridge parapet.
Inscriptions on Pont Alexandre III date stone
Yet this last image shows the inscription on this plaque, which is sometimes referred to as a date stone, and as you can tell, above the name of the bridge, being Pont Alexandre III, it has the date 1897, which is when construction started, and below is the year 1900, which is when this was completed and officially inaugurated.
