La Sculpture On Palais De Chaillot NW Wing

This first HD photo shows one of the bas relief sculptures that was designed for the Palais de Chaillot when it was constructed for the 1937Universal Exhibition in Paris, and first exhibited at the Paris Salon this can now be found on the north western wing, which is often referred to as the Passy side of the building.

La Sculpture By Andre Abbal

However, here you can see a close up photograph showing a part of the bas relief called La Sculpture, which was sculpted by Andre Abba,l who was born in Montech within the Midi-Pyrenees region of France back in 1876, and following in his fathers and grandfathers footsteps, who had worked with Violet-le-Duc restoring famous monuments.

He initially studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Toulouse but Andre Abbal then furthered his studies in Paris, being taught by Alexandre Falguiere, and he loved the concept of direct carving into stone, with many of his art works being executed in this style.

Andre Abbal was not one to be within the Paris scene like many artists, and having moved out to Carbonne in the south of France with his family, that is where he lived and worked for the majority of his life, passing away in the same place in 1953.

Yet Andre Abbal still received many public commissions over the years, especially for war memorials and there is even a museum dedicated to him in his home town of Carbonne, where his widow donated part of their garden and monumental works to exhibit within this outdoor exhibition.
