We were in the 5th Arrondissement of Paris when we came across the Fontaine Saint-Michel and took these high definition photos showing the central statue called Saint Michel terrassant le Demon, which was sculpted by Francisque Joseph Duret.

Saint Michel terrassant le Demon statue
This first HD photograph shows a statue group on the Fontaine Saint-Michel called the Saint Michel terrassant le Demon, which in English translates to Saint Michael slaying the Demon, and sculpted by Francisque Joseph Duret, this is located on the Fontaine Saint-Michel.

Here you can see a close up photograph showing the Demon with a rather grimaced face laying over a rock, which was produced in bronze as part of the statue group that was sculpted by Francisque Joseph Duret back in 1861, yet the rock itself was produced by another artist called Felix Saupin.

Now this was one of the most important elements that were to be represented on the Fontaine Saint-Michel, which was actually designed by the architect Gabriel Davioud who worked alongside Baron Haussmann for the redesign of Paris that was implemented in the 1800s.

Gabriel Davioud commissioned several different sculptors to produce statues for the Fontaine Saint-Michel, which is actually the tallest fountain in Paris, and in this photo you can see the detailing that went into producing the central figure of Saint Michel by Francisque Joseph Duret who was the son of a French sculptor born in 1804.

In fact, Francisque Joseph Duret received numerous public commissions for statues and sculptures that can be seen at tourist attractions all around his home city of Paris including the Musee du Louvre, Jardin des Champs-Elysees, Eglise de la Madeleine, and numerous others, not forgetting this masterpiece of Saint Michael slaying the Demon at the Saint Michael Fountain.

Yet here you can see the entire enormous structure and historical monument of the Fontaine Saint-Michel, which was actually designed to hide the end of a building, and located at the Place Saint Michel in the 5th Arrondissement of Paris, this is a major work of art that was produced by several artists including the central statue group by Francisque Jospeh Duret called Saint Michel terrassant le Demon.
