Angel statue by Pierre Jules Cavelier
This first HD photo shows a close up of the Angel statue which was produced by Pierre Jules Cavelier when the Saint Germain l'Auxerrois church was being restored, along with additional embellishments added or replaced from those that had been previously destroyed.

You will find that this is a very historical church that was once used by the royal family residing at the Palais du Louvre, and has seen many changes throughout the centuries, with some parts dating back to the 1500s and even earlier, yet this Angel statue was only put in place during its restoration between 1836 and 1845.

There were several architects who worked on the restoration of the Eglise Saint Germain l'Auxerrois including Jean-Baptiste Lassus, and they commissioned a number of French sculptors and painters to restore it to its former glory, and as we mentioned earlier, this particular statue of an Angel was produced by Pierre Jules Cavelier.

But Pierre Jules Cavelier was such a renowned French sculptor he was awarded numerous public commissions for works on tourist attractions in Paris such as The Louvre, Palais Garnier, Gare du Nord, Tour Saint Jacques and many more through a long and prolific career, while also being a professor at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, before retiring and passing away in 1894.

Yet in this photo you can see a view of the Angel next to the bell tower of the Eglise Saint Germain l'Auxerrois, above the archway where you can see a part of the famous Louvre Museum, which is located on the opposite side of the road called the Rue de l'Amiral de Coligny in the 1st Arrondissement.
