Fountain Of The Virgin

In this image you can see the back of the impressive and historical Notre Dame de Paris, and while we were standing in the Square Jean XXIII, we took this HD photo of the Fountain of the Virgin, which is situated within this pretty garden, and although it was designed in a Gothic style to match the cathedral, this was sculpted several hundred years after the famous Catholic church in Paris.

As you can see from this photo, the Square Jean XXIII is a popular place to visit while on holiday in Paris, mainly due to the fact that it is situated right next to the Notre Dame, yet it is also right next to the River Seine, which would be to the right of this image, and not far from the Lovers Bridge or Pont de l'Archeveche along with a memorial and the archaeolical crypt, which are also other popular tourist attractions in this area of the city.

Originally there was a lovely palace called the Palais de l’Archeveche that was located next to the Notre Dame de Paris, which had a garden designed by Gabriel Thouin, however after being looted, ransacked and severely vandalised in 1831, it was demolished and was replaced with a garden in 1837 that was originally known as the Square de l’Archeveche, but what you can see in this photo is a part of the park now known as the Square Jean XXIII, which was renamed this in honour of the Pope of the same name, along with the rectory of the cathedral.

As though you are heading towards the Ile Saint Louis from the Square de l'Ile de France on the Ile de la cite island, we took this photo looking back towards the Square Jean XXIII, which surrounds the Notre Dame de Paris at the side by the River Seine where you can get to see the South Rose Window, and at the back of the cathedral is where you will find a Gothic style monument called the Fountain of the Virgin, which you can also see in this picture that is partly hidden by the blue name sign.

While standing in the Square Jean XXIII, that was named after the Pope from 1958 through to 1963, this is an image we took showing a small part of the garden with its pretty flower beds, as we were looking at the Notre Dame Cathedral and its fabulous South Rose Window on this famous historical monument that was designed in a Gothic style and is one of the oldest cathedrals in France.

With ivy growing over the walls down to the River Seine along with numerous other different species of trees, such as cherry, Indain chestnut, a Hungarian oak, lime, yew trees and many more, this makes the Square Jean XXIII the perfect accompaniment to a tranquil and historical area on the Ile de la Cite island, that as you can see in this high definition photograph, is situated right by the Notre Dame Cathedral with its famous external flying buttresses.

There are numerous different statues and sculptures you come across all over the city, and we took this photo in the Square Jean XXIII of the bust of Carlo Goldoni, who was an Italian playwright and librettist that died in Paris, having written numerous plays in French as well as Italian, and one such play was presented on the occasion of the marriage of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, which is why he is so well recognised within France and Paris, plus his plays have been translated into numerous languages and still continue to this day.

Park Benches In Square Jean XXIII

On a beautiful hot and sunny day, many people like to relax on park benches in the shade, which is exactly what you can see in this photo at the Square Jean XXIII, that is located in the 4th Arrondissement of Paris to the side and behind Notre Dame Cathedral on the Ile de la Cite island, yet it is also a place you can discover wildlife and it is a popular haunt for ornithologists, as there are several pairs of kestrels that permanently nest here, even though we never managed to catch sight of any while we were there.

In a part of the Square Jean XXIII, which was named after a Pope, you will find there are plenty of benches to sit and relax in the shade, just like many people were doing while we were visiting this beautiful square in Paris, yet as you can also see in this image, there is a bandstand area within the garden where numerous different musicians and groups play during the warmer months, which is in an idyllic setting right by the Notre Dame Cathedral.

Here you can see a photo of the Square Jean XXIII, which is located on the Ile de la Cite island by the Notre Dame Cathedral, and as you can tell from this image showing just a part of the garden by the south facade of the historical monument, it is a very well kept square with some unusual features, like the pot tipped on its side on purpose, along with the cone shaped trees.
