The River Seine has been a major life line for residents and a part of Paris city life for centuries with the transportation of goods and even ferries going back and forth from one bank to another before many of the bridges were constructed. Although things have changed quite a bit over the years, as you can see in this photo with the numerous pleasure craft and houseboats moored up, plus if you look closely at the image you will be able to see one of the boats on a sightseeing tour just underneath the Pont Alexandre III bridge.
