Over the last few years there have been more prestigious and excellent hotels with bespoke services appearing throughout the world, many exceeding the expectations of a 5 star hotel, yet there is no clear rating system in place that works throughout the world, with some hotels even claiming they are a 6 star or even 7 star.
However, throughout Europe the standard only goes up to 5 star, yet in France an additional category called a Palace Hotel has emerged and requires specific criteria to be met in order to qualify for this prestigious title, with the first stage being the hotel sending in an application form to Atout France for perusal.
The initial checks for eligibility to be called a Palace Hotel include all the things you would expect from a 5 star hotel, such as luxury, comfort, plus a full and impressive concierge service, yet spa facilities, gastronomy, the style of the hotel and even its history are also assessed in this initial process.
Another major factor for hotels in France to be classed as a Palace Hotel is the fact that they have polyglot staff, in other words, staff who speak multiple languages, in many cases at least five plus fluently, rather than two or three as you would get with multilingual staff in many 4 star and 5 star hotels.
The next stage in the process of becoming rated as a Palace Hotel is a presentation in front of a panel that includes people from the world of literature, art, culture the media and business world, where their opinions count towards this ultimate distinction.
In fact, they look at the hotel from a client point of view, such as how they feel about its environment, facilities, attentiveness of staff, the beauty of the place along with the upmost in high standards with the latest technology.
From the rooms with a complete room service through to well being centres and even fitness areas, not forgetting different dining options with the gastronomy being a refined gourmet dining experience, often Michelin starred, these are the types of things that the panel of people look at that, which are available for each individual at the hotel.
Another point that is taken into consideration are facilities for those on business rather than pleasure, which means things such as a complete business centre, conference facilities, even personalised secretarial and business services, along with VIP meet and great, chauffeur services, etc.
In addition to this, many hotels within the 5 star and especially Palace Hotels also have specific options in place for weddings and wedding receptions or other functions that people wish to book, where they can provide the complete catering and staff for the occasion along with all those extras needed for the perfect and memorable experience.
So as you would probably expect, the capital city of Paris has several Palace Hotels of distinction that have met these exceptionally high standards, having been previously awarded the 5 star status even before this additional category was put in place, although some are still striving for that ultimate recognition.
