Saint Michel statue, Eglise de la Madeleine, Paris
This first HD photo shows a statue of Saint Michel that was sculpted by Nicolas Bernard Raggi, who was born in Carrara, Italy in 1790 with the name of Niccolo Bernardo Raggi, yet studied in Florence and then travelled to France, hoping to becoming involved with trade, before going back to sculpture and studying under Francois Joseph Bosio, then being admitted to the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1814.

Nicolas Bernard Raggi became a French citizen in 1828 and produced statues for many different places and tourist attractions throughout France, along with two for the Eglise de la Madeleine in Paris including this one of Saint Michel, which was sculpted in the late 1830s.
Saint Michel inscribed on statue base
Yet here you can see a close up of the name plaque on the pedestal at the base of the statue depicting Saint Michel, which in English is spelt Saint Michael, who is also known as Archangel Michael.

Saint Michael the Archangel has been a part of Christian teachings and is referred to within the bible, and in Roman Catholic religion he is an angel with wings that is the enemy of Satan and the guardian of the church, with a prayer dedicated to him brought into official use by Pope Leo XIII in 1886 and his feast day is 29th September.
West facade Eglise de la Madeleine and Saint Michel statue
Now this photo shows the location of the Saint Michel statue within a niche of the portico on the western facade of the Eglise de la Madeleine, and when you are looking at this side of the church, which is to the left of the main entrance, you will see that the stone statue is the one positioned to the far right hand side.
