L’Hiver Statue West Facade Aile En Retour Turgot

Here you can see a photograph showing a statue called L'Hiver, which in English translates to The Winter, and as you can tell, this is positioned on the third level balustrade by the roof line of the former Palais du Louvre.

It is situated on the Aile en retour Turgot and although this wing is classed as within the Cour Napoleon, you would need to be standing in the courtyard called the Cour du Carrousel in order to see The Winter statue, which is positioned sixth from the left hand side.

L’Hiver Statue By Artist Goerges Clere

Now here you can see a close up HD photo showing the allegorical statue of L'Hiver with the young child wearing a hooded cloak, and this was sculpted by Georges Clere, who was born in Nancy in 1819 and initially studied medicine before changing his entire focus to become a French sculptor.

Georges Clere studied in the studio of Francois Rude and first presenting works at the 1853 Salon in Paris, he then started to receive many public commissions including no less than nine different statues and sculptures for The Louvre on different facades, including this one of L'Hiver on the Aile en retour Turgot.
