HD photographs of L'Europe statue on Aile en Retour Mollien at Musee du Louvre - Page 688

We were in the 1st Arrondissement of Paris at the Musee du Louvre when we took these high definition photos showing a statue called L'Europe, which was sculpted by Joseph Adolphe Alexandre Walcher.

L'Europe Statue On Aile En Retour Mollien At The Louvre

This first HD photo shows the statue called L'Europe, that can be found on the balustrade at the top level of the Aile en Retour Mollien close to the roof line and the chimney, and although this wing is classed as within the Cour Napoleon, you would actually view the facade from the Cour du Carrousel, and this statue is position fifth from the left hand side.

Now this was designed as an allegory, and although some sources state the statue is called Europe, other sources state that it is called Les Beaux-Arts, which in English translates to The Fine Arts, but we feel that L'Europe is more logical having fruit, flowers, etc rather items associated with art.

L'Europe Statue By Sculptor Joseph Adolphe Alexandre Walcher

Also, there is documentation via a book called the Reunion des Tuileries au Louvre, 1852-1857 in volume 2 that details this allegorical statue on The Louvre as being called L'Europe, that was sculpted by Joseph Adolphe Alexandre Walcher who was born in 1810.

In addition to this, the original plaster model sculpted by Joseph Adolphe Alexandre Walcher between 1855 and 1857 is now held within the collections of another famous tourist attraction in Paris called the Musee d'Orsay.
