South side bronze bas relief on Raspail Monument
This first HD photo shows the bas relief located on the Monument to Raspail, and sculpted in bronze this was designed to depict Francois Vincent Raspail as a politician, and born in the January of 1794, he became a French chemist, physician and a politician.

However, Francois Vincent Raspail was not always in the governments favour being involved in an attempted revolt, and was imprisoned on two separate occasions, plus sent into exile, only managing to return to France in 1862, yet becoming a popular Republican, he was elected deputy of Lyons during the liberal phase of the Second Empire.

Now this close up photograph of the south side bronze bas relief was just one of the elements sculpted for the Monument to Raspail, which was started in 1897 and put in place in 1899, and this was produced by Leopold Morice, who was born in Nimes in 1846, and studied under Francois Jouffroy to become a French sculptor.

First presenting works at the 1868 Paris Salon, Leopold Morice then started to receive public commissions, including this monument to Raspail, however, his most recognised work is that of The Republic, which is an enormous monument located at the Place de la Republique in Paris, plus he was involved in the decoration on the Pont Alexandre III.

And in this last image you can see the entire monument with the bas relief on the south side, although unfortunately the original bronze statue of Raspail was melted down during the German occupation of Paris.

But to give you more of an idea as to where this Monument to Raspail is located, it is within a small garden called the Square Jacques Antoine, which is one of three that can be found at the Place Denfert-Rochereau in the 14th Arrondissement close to many other tourist attractions in Paris including the Catacombs and the Lion of Belfort statue.
