L'Art Grec translates to Greek Art in English and this was produced by Bernard Gabriel Seurre, who was born in Paris in 1795 and entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts to become a French sculptor, however, he became known as Seurre the Elder, as his younger brother also became a sculptor.
Bernard Gabriel Seurre won the Prix de Rome in 1818 and after this he received several public commissions including working on tourist attractions in Paris such as the Arc de Triomphe, Madeleine church and the Fontaine Moliere, plus he received several orders for the famous Louvre Museum including this one of Greek Art and two for the series of famous men in French history.
