Saint Genevieve statue by Victor Baltard
The Eglise Saint Etienne du Mont is an historical church in Paris that contains the shrine of Saint Genevieve, who is the Patron Saint of Paris, and this church that was originally a part of the Abbey of Saint Genevieve, so it is very apt to see a statue of Saint Genevieve on the facade.

But even though this church was constructed during the early part of the 1600s, unfortunately it was ransacked plus much of the decoration was destroyed during the French Revolution, so the statue of Saint Genevieve you can see within the niche in this HD photo only dates from the 1800s.

In fact, it was Victor Baltard, who sculpted the statue of Saint Genevieve, and born in Paris in 1805 he followed in his fathers footsteps to become a French architect working for the City of Paris, often with more than one project on the go at the same time.

And Victor Baltard was given the task of restoring the Eglise Saint Etienne du Mont to its former glory, having previously restored other churches in the city including the Saint Eustace and the Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois churches, plus he is well known for the construction of the pavilions at Les Halles, of which there is only one still surviving that was moved to the outskirts of Paris and renamed after him.

So this last image shows a part of the facade of the church, and as you can see, the statue of the Patron Saint of Paris, which is spelt Sainte Genevieve in French, is located to the right hand side of the main entrance and this whole facade was restored by Victor Baltard between the years of 1861 and 1868.

Now, the area where we were standing when we took the photo is classed as a part of the Place du Pantheon, however, there is a small plaque located on the edge of the Eglise Saint Etienne du Mont that says Place Sainte Genevieve, which is what sometimes shows on the address instead, and this is within the 5th Arrondissement in an area known as the Latin Quarter that is home to numerous universities and schools.
