Evangelists Statue Saint Jacques by Jean Louis Chenillon
This first HD photo shows a statue of Saint Jacques, known in English as Saint James, which is on the very top of the Tour Saint-Jacques, and although the tower was originally part of a church constructed in the 1500s, it was restored in the 1800s, which is when this statue was put in place, although the church itself was destroyed in the French Revolution.
Two Evangelists Statues on Tour Saint Jacques
So here you can see the Saint Jacques statue, along with two of the four Evangelists, and these were produced by the very little known French sculptor Jean Louis Chenillon, who was born in 1810 and studied in the workshop of David d'Angers, passing away in 1875.
Tour Saint Jacques 4th Arrondissement in Paris
The Tour Saint-Jacques also had major restoration over the course of several years that was in finished in 2013, and here you can see a photograph we took showing this in all its glory, which has been classed as an historical monument and is a starting point for pilgrims on the route to Saintiago de Compostella in Spain.

And known in English as the Saint James Tower, this located near to the River Seine and the Hotel de Ville in the 4th Arrondissement, yet it is one of the historical monuments in Paris that many people miss, just purely because it is not one of those famous tourist attractions, however the ornate Gothic architecture and style, along with its statues and gargoyles are well worth seeing.
