Incredibly the very first Orangerie in France was at the Chateau de Blois, after King Francis I had come back from visiting Italy in the 16th century, and these became a traditional part of any royal garden for housing lemon and orange trees, so when the Luxembourg Gardens was designed, this also had an orangery, although the one you can see today with its busts of artists, like this one of David d'Angers, only dates from the 1800s.
